When you don’t like it
Okay, so first off, it’s not that I don’t like it — completely. But the struggle is real.
I always get a proof copy of my book before I even start working on the cover art. My main focus at this point is on the inner matter of the book. There are a few things I needed to make sure were set up right.
- Margins and Gutter
- Table of Contents
- Header
- Page Numbers
As soon as I opened the book, I knew the gutter was too large. The table of contents and page numbers are fine.
The header. Why?
I have a tendency of wanting to center the title of the poem. But to me, it doesn’t look right with the header being centered. That being said, I don’t want to change the justification of the header. So, I’ve decided to left justify the title instead.
I’m doing all of this visually. None of my previous poetry books had headers. Now I’m starting to see why I left them out of the books.
The next thing I have to do is read through each poem to make sure I didn’t accidentally add any bad words. I’m hoping to get everything done by Wednesday evening.
But that won’t be the end. I’ll have to upload the corrected file, order another proof copy, and start the process all over again. Sounds like fun, doesn’t it? And just think, we haven’t even gotten to the cover art yet.
